The coastal town Ao Nang

Ao Nang is a small coastal town situated in the Krabi Province in southeast Thailand. The town is a large tourist destination with a multitude of massage parlors, restaurants, resorts and bars.

As you drive into Ao Nang from the pier side down Nopparat Thara Road you will see Nopparat Thara beach on your right and the start of restaurants on your left.

Nopparat Thara Road is the main road that takes you through Ao Nang and past by all the resorts, restaurants, shops and bars. Once you arrive in Ao Nang everything is in walking distance, well almost.

You can rent a scooter at any of the Bike rental places or even at your hotel, an average scooter will go for around B150 and a really nice one for around B200 per day.

We rented a Honda Scoopy i for B200 per day, could have gone for the cheaper option but I prefer if Marius drives the bike, so something with a bit bigger engine was a better choice.

On our second day in Ao Nang we went apartment hunting and through our friend Yen we got introduced to Mim, from www.krabivactionrentals.net. She had some excellent places to show us, but Marius's heart got stuck on the 1st place we saw, which coincidental is hers and we got it at an incredible price.

Everywhere you go in Ao Nang there is sheer cliffs that protrude like mountains out of the ground.  The lush green scenery and blue oceans combines into a truly magnificent visual experience.

In Ao Nang town you can grab a ferry to one of the closely located islands, but during low tide you can even walk to the closely located island by Nopparat Thara beach.

The long tail boats located on Ao Nang Beach has been overly commercialized by the travel and tour companies and it is quite expensive, if you head out to Shai Thai beach or any of the surrounding beaches you can get a much better price. From Shai Tahi beach a Long Tail boat to Riley Beach is only B60 one way.

Shopping in Ao Nang is quite and experience, well most of Thailand, so here is some tips ;-)

  1. If a item costs B350, then start at around B200 (40% less of asking price)
  2. You can negotiate from there, but walk away as that same item is probably sold by the store next door as well.

There are many 7 Elevens, so if you did forget anything you can buy it there, from toilet paper to cheese and deodorant, and they also have all the world brands.

Sheer cliffs

The golden sunsets from Ao Nang beach is incredible and we can recommend it definitely as something you have to see in your life.
